Calvin Luvhimbi back at Musina FM

Read: 1262

When Calvin Nditsheni Luvhimbi grew up in the rural Musholombi village in Nzhelele, he always listened to radio programmes, especially those presented by DJ Sbu. The more he listened to the shows, the more his desire to become a radio presenter grew.

His break came shortly after Musina FM began operating in 2009. Although Luvhimbi felt he could be one of the radio presenters, he faced challenges traveling to Musina. However, when the call for auditions for radio presenters came, he had to try his luck. “This time I auditioned and was successful. I used to read news in the local language, Venda, covering current affairs and playing soft-touch music,” Luvhimbi said.

But as time went by, his family in Johannesburg advised him to study for a diploma or degree in media, so he could join larger radio stations. In 2018, he moved to Johannesburg, but things did not go as planned. He ended up hustling until he decided to rejoin Musina FM radio station this year.

At 38 years of age, Luvhimbi currently hosts the sports and entertainment shows. He encourages the youth to pursue their passion. “Always follow your passion. Do not let anyone discourage you. I am confident you will achieve your goals,” said Luvhimbi.
